About Sandy Spring Friends School
Summer at Sandy Spring takes place on the 140-acre wooded campus of Sandy Spring Friends School. Founded in 1961, Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS) is a progressive, coeducational, college preparatory Quaker school, serving students from Pre-K through 12th grade, with optional five- and seven-day boarding programs in the Upper School. SSFS offers strong academics that include Advanced Placement courses in the Upper School, arts, athletic programs and a diverse and international school community.

History
Formerly known as Summer Friends Day Camps, Summer at Sandy Spring was founded in 1992 at Sandy Spring Friends School as a service to the school’s faculty and families. Since then, the camp has opened up its unique summer experience to families beyond the school community, enhancing its programs, facilities, offerings and staff to provide a memorable summer experience for our growing number of campers.

Summer at Sandy Spring’s mission is to provide a unique and enriching summer program, filled with fun, challenges and memorable experiences. Our program promotes teamwork, friendship and, most importantly, fun in a safe environment.

In our history, Summer at Sandy Spring has achieved many milestones that we are proud of, and we continue to innovate and improve our camp program every year. As one of the first camps to build a ropes course, expand a fishing program and pilot a cooking program, Summer at Sandy Spring is committed to providing campers with diverse and engaging learning experiences. Even as we have attracted more and more campers each year, we continue to maintain a 6:1 ratio of campers to staff members to ensure individual attention for each and every camper.

ACTIVITIES
Summer at Sandy Spring’s Junior Friends Camp is the perfect place for young campers to meet new friends, make new learning discoveries, and have plenty of summer fun! With a mix of active, creative and thoughtful activities, this full-day program for children 4 to 6 years of age nurtures campers’ curiosity and offers a fun summer experience in a safe environment.
The activities are age-specific and focus on the ever-changing, ever-developing needs of this age group. Every day presents opportunities for our young campers to socialize, have fun, learn new skills, build self-confidence and make new discoveries. They have a well-rounded schedule with gymnastics, art, music, computers, as well as several camp-wide activities.

The best of traditional camp and workshops come together in our Intermediate Camp Program! Intermediate campers will look forward to summer with the wide range of activities and learning experiences that are offered. Every day, campers enjoy one personally selected workshop, water activities, a delicious lunch, group games with friends, a choice activity in the afternoon and snack time. There’s also plenty of variety in the program with weekly themes and special events that are scheduled all summer long.

In addition, campers enjoy weekly themes and special events that are scheduled all summer long!
