ABOUT CAMP
Our OEC Vision
Students who visit House In The Wood refine their essential life and social skills in a safe, outdoor environment. Students learn and understand about the natural world around them while exploring the varied camp environments. Intentional activities and programs are designed to: build cooperation, team dynamics, communication skills and conflict resolution skills--skills needed in today's world. The residential experience at House In The Wood is the key to this education program’s success.

Our Mission
House In The Wood was founded in 1910 as a place for Chicago's youth to experience the wonders of the outdoors. Central to this mission is the goal of showing alternatives to what our campers and students are used to. Whether it's digging for worms in the compost pile, eating meals family-style or just being able to feel safe, we're constantly trying to show positive ways of living and interacting with one another and our environment. In this way, we serve the broader mission of Northwestern Settlement: nurturing, educating and inspiring our neighbors to build better, stronger communities.

Summer Camp
House in the Wood is a resident co-ed Summer Camp serving children from Chicago. Our campers range from ages seven through twelve with a leadership program for our thirteen to seventeen year olds. They represent a cross section of Chicago’s diverse population. In addition to enjoying our outdoor and waterfront programs, our campers learn a variety of essential social and living skills.
夏令营

Retreat Center
When we're not hosting campers or students, House In The Wood is also a Conference and Retreat Center. Each of our rental groups has exclusive use of our entire campus and a variety of lodging, meeting and dining options. The revenue from this operation helps support our mission.
静修中心

Northwestern Settlement
House In The Wood is a program of the Northwestern Settlement. The Settlement was founded in 1893 to serve Chicago's West Town neighborhood. It's still there today, but is now serving families around Chicago. The Settlement provides educational services, after-school and summer programming, emergency services and much more.

CAMPS
Summer Camp
Our regular Summer Camp sessions are designed for campers ages 7 to 12. Campers enjoy a full range of activities including swimming, camping, boating, nature study, arts and crafts and team sports. Our regular camp program also helps campers improve their social and life skills.
夏令营
我们的夏令营常规课程是为7到12岁的成员设计的。露营者将会体验游泳、野营、划船、探索自然、手工艺术和团队运动等全方位的活动。这些露营项目对社交和生存技能的提高会有很大的帮助。
Specialty Camps
We offer Theater and Horseback Riding as specialty camps to children aged 11 to 13 during Session One. Campers will focus on their special activity for a larger part of the day but still enjoy all of the regular camp activities.

Teen Camp and The Leaders In Training Program
Our camp for teens aged 13 to 17 provides fun, safe and challenging camp activities as well as plenty of time for making friends. At the end of Teen Camp our staff selects the campers who show the most leadership potential, and they are invited back to be Leaders In Training. They return to camp for the next session, free of charge, to learn about leadership, responsibility, decision-making and life after high school. They also do volunteer work projects to serve the community.
青少年夏令营和领导力培养
营地不仅为13岁至17岁的青少年准备了有趣、安全和具有挑战性的活动还提供了充足的时间来交朋友。青少年夏令营结束时，我们的工作人员会挑选出最能体现领导潜力的露营者并邀请其参加领导力培训。他们回到营地并免费参加接下来有关领导力、责任、决策以及高中毕业后生活的课程。此外，他们也将为社区做志愿服务。
Family Camp
Family Camp allows the entire family to enjoy camp together. There are activities for parents and children as well as evening programs for the whole family. This is a great opportunity for families with young children to introduce them to camp and for more grown up families to have some quality time together in nature.

家庭夏令营允许整个家庭一起参加夏令营，既有父母和子女参加的活动也有为整个家庭准备的晚间项目。对于拥有儿童的家庭来说，这是一个享受自然环境并增进家庭成员亲密关系的好机会。
