ABOUT CAMP 

The 4-H Camp Adventure Program is designed to develop trust, teamwork, group dynamics, communication and self esteem in youth and adults. The program consists of initiative activities and low- and high- ropes courses that challenge individual and group abilities.

The ropes courses consisit of a series of "elements" or indiviual activities. Skilled and highly trained facilitators work with each group on the course and determine which activities the group is ready for, physically, emotionally, and cognitively. Safety is our greatest concern; spotters and belayers are integral parts of our program.

Each program is designed to meet the needs of the individual group. Program length may vary, depending on the groups needs, but groups are encouraged to plan at least four hours on the course, if possible. Initiative activities are designed for ages eight and older, while participants on the hig-ropes portion of the program are required to be at least eleven years of age.

The Adventure Program is built in stages. Activities start out simple and develop into more involved and rewarding activities throughout the program.

Experienced facilitators select activities that will challenge the group and encourage them to work together. As groups find successes, they will progress to more difficult activities with greater perceived risks and more powerful outcomes.

As a special note of consideration, we at 4-H Camp Bristol Hills pride ourselves in a highly developed program that goes beyond the fun and games of an amusement park experience. While we always strive to make the experience fun, it is our foremost goal to help the group become a better team. To that end, our staff go through a rigorous training program, commiting a tremendous amount of thier own (unpaid) time to make themselves better facilitators. While many groups have become accustomed to the thrill-seeking adventures that are common in today's society, we have worked with our staff to help them understand the sequencing that goes into our Adventure Programs. They understand that in order to reach high levels, they need to build a strong base of group cohesion, respect, communication and trust. They carefully select challenges that they feel will best move the group through a growing process. We beleive strongly in the value of activities that lead up to the High Ropes course. Please understand that we are not interested in rushing through the foundational activities, simply for the sake of getting your group extra time on the high elements. If you are committed to having your group on the high elements for 2 or more hours, then it is important to schedule your program for a longer time period, rather than rushing through the field initiatives and low elements. Additionally, we do not guarantee any particular element to any group; we allow our staff to make those decisions throughout the course of the program.
