ABOUT CAMP

For over a century, Camp Chief Ouray (CCO) has been the adventurous playground and traditional overnight camp for kids age 7-17. Campers live in cabins with two counselors and six to nine other children of their own gender and age. Each cabin is under the direct leadership of a college-aged counselor. Counselors receive extensive training at camp prior to the campers' arrival. We maintain a staff-to-camper ratio of 1:5 or lower. Located on 5,100 acres of mountains, valleys, streams and meadows — boredom is simply not an option. 

Mini-Camp

Mini-Camp (ages 7-10) is a 3-day, 2-night experience designed to introduce beginner campers to overnight camp, and to allow parents to adjust to the idea of their camper being away from home.  Mini-Camp includes fun and exciting activities like arts and crafts, hiking, mini-golf, group games, evening programs and more. Campers learn independence while making lasting friendships.

Traditional Camp

Traditional Camp is designed to provide fun and growth through a series of exciting experiences in a beautiful mountain setting. Special attention is given to the development of positive human relations, leadership and character development.

The week at camp consists of a mix between cabin activities decided by the cabin, activities with kids of a similar age,  camp out, hiking, camp wide games, and a chance for campers to choose the activities that they want to be a part of (Freedom of Choice Activities or FOCA).  

Adventure Trips

Camp Chief Ouray has a dynamic array of wilderness programs for campers looking for an added adventure. These exciting backcountry programs offer campers the chance to participate in rafting, mountain biking, backpacking, horse packing and surfing adventures!

Adventure Trips (ages 13-15) 

These programs offer campers the opportunity to explore Colorado by foot, raft, bike, or horse while growing strong, working as a member of a team, and learning to live in harmony with our environment.  The adventure starts with 1-2 days of teambuilding and trip preparations at CCO. Groups then embark on an incredible 4-day adventure in the backcountry.
