ABOUT CAMP

Camp Togowoods is located on over 300 beautiful acres owned by Girl Scouts of Alaska along the shores of Three Mile Lake near Wasilla. It encompasses five ecosystems to explore, including our wetlands boardwalk. All Camp Togowoods campers enjoy: arts and crafts, nature hikes, environmental education, swimming, canoeing or kayaking, outdoor cooking and our 35-foot climbing tower (girls entering grades 4+). Campers sleep in platform tents (wooden floors, cots and mosquito netting) bringing the outdoors within reach. Campers have a sense of independence with the security of counselors living in an adjacent tent.

Girl Scouts of Alaska is the proven leadership development program for girls in grades K-12. Girl Scouts provides a safe, inclusive environment for Alaska’s diverse population of girls, regardless of income or socioeconomic background.

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together.

Through a myriad of enriching experiences – such as troop membership, camps and outdoor education, workshops and events, and financial literacy skills gained through the Girl Scout Cookie Program – girls grow courageous and strong.

Girl Scouting helps girls:

• Develop their full individual potential;

• Relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect;

• Develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and

• Contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others.

Building on the traditional values of the Girl Scout movement, we meet the needs of girls in Alaska today.

Troops

Troops meet on a regular basis, generally during the school year. Troop membership is organized according to grade, with activities designed for each level. 

Camps

Camps are open to all girls, regardless of Girl Scout membership. Our camps are committed to creating a community that helps campers unlock their potential and discover the world while developing life skills. In our safe and supportive environment girls become active participants in the learning process as counselors guide them in not only having fun, but understanding the importance of how and what they are doing. We offer two types of camps, day camp and resident (overnight) camp. 

Events

Girl Scouts of Alaska offers exciting events that provide girls with excellent opportunities to explore, play, and learn. Recent past events include a family ice-skating night in Anchorage with professional figure- and speed-skating demonstrations, songs and s’mores around a campfire in Juneau, a “Voyage to Mars” at the Challenger Learning Center in Kenai, and an outdoor survival skills event in Haines.

Women of Science & Technology Day 

A Girl Scouts of Alaska signature event, Women of Science & Technology Day allows girls to experience science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects through fun, hands-on workshops led by women working in STEM careers. In 2015, we will hold Women of Science events in nine communities across the state.
