SUMMER CAMP & WEEKENDS IN THE COUNTRY

Fun and friendship fill the air during Horizons’ Summer Camp and Weekends in the Country overnight camp opportunities! These two camp options are offered for children and adults who have developmental disabilities and are between the ages of 8 and 39 (campers who are 40 and up attend our Masters Program).
Like other traditional sleep-away camps, Horizons provides a wide variety of enriching and rewarding experiences uniquely designed to promote each camper’s success.
The staff at Horizons are chosen for their proven abilities with campers who have special needs. Staff participate in a six day orientation, as well as ongoing staff development groups and weekly staff meetings. Our high rate of returning campers and staff is evidence of the success of Horizons.

Horizons enhances each camper's:
Since 1979, Horizons Summer Camp has been a breath of fresh air for campers and their families. Offered for eight weeks each summer, our camp allows campers to explore horseback riding, swimming, boating, arts, fitness, drama, pioneering, music, language arts, movement and dance, physical education and more with the help of engaging and well-trained instructors. Campers and counselors bunk together in comfortable cabins.

Campers ride horses at the riding ring with tack house and enjoy the arts & crafts, woodworking and pottery barn. Acres of trees and open space provide the setting for a waterfront with a sandy beach, docks and boats.
Horizons receives support from foundations and agencies, such as the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, the Probus Clubs of Connecticut and Massachusetts, and other organizations. Horizons is licensed by the Connecticut State Health Department, and is accredited by the American Camp Association.
WEEKENDS IN THE COUNTRY

Weekends in the Country are offered from September to May. These action packed, theme based weekends are developed by our creative team and filled with fun and friendship. Campers arrive on Friday evening and return home Sunday afternoon. Sixteen uniquely themed weekends are conducted through the year with an extended Vacation Week held at year’s end between Christmas and New Year’s. Every Weekend in the Country sees campers enjoying the same variety, camaraderie and opportunities for learning provided by summer camp only in an intimate, joyful two-day span.
