ABOUT CAMP
Our Summer Camp: Hard to Spell, Easy to Love
Imagine a summer camp in the Adirondacks that combines all of this every single day:
Unmatched beauty of our north shore location on one of the great Adirondack Lakes
Self-discovery that starts with exceptional counselors and instructors
Delight that comes from realizing previously unknown talents and skills
Adventure that comes from trying brand new things with lots of support
Imagine all this happening, when all you expected was a great time:
Together we build a sense of real community, beginning with sportsmanship
Together we create a secure and supportive environment, based on mutual respect
Together we form warm and lasting friendships . . . because we’re really nice
And that great time you expected happens every day.
Location, Location, Location - Ours Is Quite Special
For our campers, Camp Chateaugay represents a truly exciting journey to a very special place.
For our campers who travel a bit farther to arrive here, Camp Chateaugay is almost like a special land.
Your child does not have to cross a road to get to our lake
Camp's lakefront is a quarter mile with an additional mile (+) of forever wild lakeshore
Camp is safely located right on the lakeshore
Secluded location keeps campers safe

It starts with playing in the sunshine. Then it becomes part of your life.
When people search for a summer camp, they often hear a lot about Camp Spirit.
Whether or not a parent remembers the almost magical appearance of Camp Spirit in their own lives, we can assure you that here, we do our part to make it happen every summer:
Traditional games, campfires, camp celebrations – to create indelible memories
Bonding across age groups, genders and nationalities – to encourage friendship
Continuous surprises – from wacky traditions to spontaneous dining hall craziness

Imagine the fun when you plan part of every day at camp!
We Plan Two Daily Activity Periods For The Campers
Then The Campers "Take Over"
Three or four periods every day for your own choices
Every week begins with the chance for new activities
You get to explore and then excel in new areas
A sense of proficiency and responsibility develops
You gain a great feeling of freedom – while we keep watch

You have a choice to make, we think ours is a very good one!
The Most Important Reason To Choose A Camp
Camp Chateaugay is an incredible collection of activities and facilities, as are many camps.
But this camp is really all about people
Campers from all over (including other countries) who become new and lasting friends
Counselors and specialists who become new mentors – “older brothers and sisters”
Owners who get right in there and lead the way to a summer of fun and adventure
Camp Chateaugay is located in the scenic Adirondacks, far from most communities where campers live during the year.

When children make this journey, they feel special
They’ve done more to get here than it may take to arrive at other camps.
Our “end-of-odyssey” locale begins to stand for everything that makes Camp Chateaugay truly unique.
The journey continues as we challenge our campers with traditional outdoor experiences that they never forget.
Campers learn all sorts of skills – but perhaps the most important are the “people skills” of friendship, cooperation and acceptance. Perhaps their backhand is improved or they learned some new moves on the court – but they have also learned more about respect for each other and for the world in which we live. We like to think that our campers come home as different people.

Every trip is supervised by a mature, experienced staff member
Older campers provide group leadership by planning, organizing and packing for trips
No matter what you like doing best here, you'll be doing it all with close friends.

Evening Activities
Every night we have an Evening Activity which could be anything from Capture the Flag to a campfire on the beach, a treasure hunt, All-Star wrestling (where campers dress their counselors up in the weirdest costumes they can think of), or an MTV Night. Select evening programs allow younger campers to have a special evening planned, while the older campers do something just for them. Some nights are specially designed just for the cabin. These "cabin nights" are scheduled once a week, so the campers in each cabin can have some bonding time to just be together.
Every "cabin night" is different, such as pool parties, camp fires on the beach, or movies in the big living room on our massive T.V.

Upstairs in our boathouse over looking the lake, we have an old fashion ice cream parlor, complete with checkerboard floor, music and games. Campers can choose between ice cream, old fashion sodas, popcorn, or pizza for that special treat, while enjoying time well spent with their friends.
Other special evening activities can include an evening boat ride, complete with a barbecue on board. This gives campers the chance to relax and create strong bonds with their cabin mates, while enjoying hot dogs, hamburgers, and s'mores in a beautiful surrounding.

Theme Days
Both sessions have a number of major event days which add to the experience of camp spirit and traditions. Each session also has a special version of all camp events, and a farewell awards banquet. There are many other special days and evening activities at camp.
These include July Fourth Day, Army Navy Day, Olympics, Carnival Day, Fair Day, Gold Rush, etc. Every week there's something special happening at Camp Chateaugay, which means your camper will enjoy tons of fun programming, whether they come for the first half, second session, or the whole summer
Tripping Program
Based in the Adirondack Mountains, Camp Chateaugay is a short distance from the High Peaks region. Our tripping program takes advantage of our location, and campers are taken out backpacking in the spectacular high peaks region of the Adirondacks, and canoeing on magnificent lakes in the area, including Saranac Lakes.
The tripping program is supervised by mature staff members with extensive outdoor experience, who teach our campers the value of nature, low impact camping, and many outdoor skills. Older campers are taught how to plan, organize, and pack out for trips, and are given leadership positions in a group setting.
In addition to canoe and hiking trips, which each cabin may enroll for, our tripping program also offers specialized trips, which all campers can sign up for. For example, we offer extended sailing on Lake Champlain, mountain biking, white-water rafting, rock-climbing, and other additional overnights.
