CYC offers a range of activities for visiting groups. The majority of activities are undertaken in the nearby Tallebudgera Creek and Tallebudgera Surf Beach, while some of our Adventure Activities are located in the Numinbah Valley.
CANOEING – An old favourite, enjoyed by students for many years. CYC EDUCATION takes students along the culturally significant Tallebudgera Creek to Crab Island and beyond! Students not only develop the necessary skills specific to canoeing, but also learn that team work is always more effective than working as an individual. SURFING - One of those activities that’s a winner with everyone, no matter what their age! Surfing develops a student’s sense of balance and core strength and fosters an attitude of resilience. STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING – The newest activity to the CYC line up. Stand Up Paddle Surfing (SUP) is one of the funnest things you can do on the water, its suitable for all ages, in fact kids are often better at it than adults! SUP develops a student’s sense of balance and core strength and is a great way to facilitate personal attributes such as endurance and perseverance. TUBING – Students (& teachers) love racing around the ski lanes of the Tallebudgera Creek behind our boat. Teams of two jump in and hang on as our skillful drivers weave their magic. Of course, safety is our number one priority here at CYC and as such we are continually reviewing our activities to guarantee maximum participant safety whilst ensuring that everyone has the time of their lives! RAFT BUILDING – One of the all time great team building activities. CYC EDUCATION’S raft building is raft building with a difference! Set on the universal Tallebudgera Creek, our instructors will ensure each student leaves with a sense of accomplishment and some new found skills both physical and social. SNORKELING – Participants experience the wonders lurking beneath the surface of the Tallebudgera Creek. Launching from Echo Beach, in the Burleigh Heads National Park, students snorkel along the bank and over rock formations to get an uninterrupted view of the abundant sea life of the creek. BODY BOARDING – Fun, Fun, Fun! Students build on their knowledge of the ocean while developing their skills of wave catching, wave riding, bottom turns, cut backs and drop knees! FISHING – Relax along the bank of the Tallebudgera Creek while wetting a line! Each student is taught the basics of fishing with a rod and reel, shown how to cast, learns how to bait a hook and will hopefully land that big one! TEAM BUILDING – A great way to establish, or build on the groups unity and cohesivness. Team Building is a beach based activity and takes advantage of the wide open beaches of Tallebudgera and Burleigh Heads. INITIATIVE GAMES – Complements Team Building perfectly. One based on land, the other based on the beach and in the ocean, Initiative Games encourages a student’s social development and problem solving skills. MOUNTAIN BIKING – Enjoy the scenery of the Gold Coast Hinterland from the saddle of a mountain bike. Generally used as part of CYC’s adventure program, mountain biking encourages students to assess and manage risks, and in the contect of an adventure program, develops a students’ personal responsibility for themselves and others. DRAGON BOATING – One of the all time great team building activities. Experience the power and excitement of the dragon boat with 21 of your mates! CYC’s dragon boat cruises up and down the Tallebudgera Creek and can be used within our coastal or adventure programs. For an Education Queensland Risk Assessment, click here. HIGH ROPES – Great for developing a student’s sense of self and personal identity and when used as part of CYC’s adventure program, provide great opportunitites for students to develop an awareness of others and leadership skills. GREEN CHALLENGE – Green Challenge is part of the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and is great for students as young as year 6! The Green Challenge is a self-service high rope course through the tall trees of the Currumbin Wildlife Park. Incorporating a high degree of perceived risk, while keeping actual risk very low, it’s a great opportunity to teach students about assessing and managing risk. BURLEIGH NATIONAL PARK WALK – The Burleigh Heads National Park is on CYC’s doorstep and is teaming with native flora and fauna. Jellurgal, as the aboriginals call it, is a culturally significant location with many significant sites still remaining, including a midden and fish trap. BUSH WALKING (GOLD COAST HINTERLAND) – Taking in the Gold Coast Hinterland through a back to basics bush walk is a must for all schools. Walks can last for as little as a couple of hours, to as long as a couple of days. When included as part of CYC’s adventure program, students will hike, paddle, climb, abseil and cave their way through the hinterland. For an Education Queensland Risk Assessment, click here. CAVING – The Gold Coast Hinterland has some great spots to explore – none better than the caves that meander through Turtle Rock. Caving extends a student’s identity while developing their sense of trust. Incorporating a high degree of perceived risk, while keeping actual risk very low, it’s a great opportunity to teach students about assessing and managing risk. ROCK CLIMBING & ABSEILING – There are not too many better views of the Gold Coast than from the top of Turtle Rock. CYC’s Rock Climbing and Abseiling encourages students to explore their fears around heights and confidence in themselves. LIFEGUARD SURF SAFETY TALKS – One of the most important aspects to any visit to the Gold Coast. Gold Coast City Council Life Guards instruct students on all aspects of the beach and ocean from rips and currents to stings, bites and the sun. Lifeguards will come to CYC or your students can visit them at the beach. A must for all camps.
MINI SURF CARNIVAL – You can’t come to the Gold Coast and not experience a Mini Surf Carnival! Our instructors will lead your group through the carnival incorporating events such as flag races, ocean swims, beach runs, tug of war, surf rescue relays and board races. The Mini Surf Carnival builds on the knowledge gained from the Lifeguard Surf Safety Talks and enables students to experience first hand, the elements of the ocean in a safe and controlled environment. TRIVIA NIGHT – A night of great laughs, fun and the odd piece of trivia. Our staff will design and faciltate a trivia night suited to your school’s age, cultural identity and location to ensure your students get the most out of the night.
MOVIE NIGHT – A great way to wind down after a hectic few days of non-stop activities. Watch a movie on the big screen in our Recreation Room. Students bring pillows and blankets and settle in for a relaxing night. A great final night activity, CYC staff will arrange a movie for your group with consultation.
KARAOKE NIGHT – A crowd favourite! What student doesn’t want to get up on stage and perform in front of their friends? Can be run either as an individual activity or as a cabin group activity. This acitivty quickly becomes all-inclusive as those in the audience can’t help but jump up and join in the dancing and singing.
DANCE PARTY – Experience the sights and sounds of one of CYC’s legendary Dance Parties. Lights, smoke machines, mirror balls – we’ve got it all. Each party is designed to represent your school’s demographic and taste in music from hip hop to country, to rock or top 40. Teachers can supervise from the perimeter or get down with the kids!
THEME PARKS – Take advantage of CYC’s proximity to the theme parks of the Gold Coast. Within 30 minutes, you can be at Dream World, Movie World, Wet ‘n’ Wild, Outback Spectacular or Sea World. Each of these parks have relevant educational applications, resources and pricing. CYC can take care of your reservations, educational needs and transport so all you have to worry about is having fun.
NIGHT BEACH WALKS – Experience Burleigh beach at night. CYC instructors will lead the students on a beach walk to North Burleigh and back, incorporating games along the way. ENVIRONMENTAL EXPERIENCES – CYC partners with Second Nature Asia Pacific to deliver some of the best enviornmental education programs around. Whether its traversing the rocky shores of the Burleigh Headland, paddling the mangroves of Currumbin or Tallebudgera creeks, exploring the Burleigh Heads National Park or investigating the built environments of the Gold Coast, we’ve got you covered. Our programs align with the current Queensland curriculum and are designed to meet your school’s specific needs.
