ASYLUM SEEKER SUPPORT PROGRAM
Edmund Rice Asylum Seeker Project (ERASP), aims to respond to the needs of asylum seekers in Melbourne. Our mission is to help bring dignity through building friendships and supporting people seeking protection in this nation. Edmund Rice Asylum Seeker Project is an outreach of the Edmund Rice Centre 'Amberley' and is guided by the charism of Edmund Rice, the founder of Christian Brothers.
Edmund Rice Asylum Seeker Project is a residual service provider, and aims to help complement current services provided by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Hotham Mission Asylum Seeker Project, Brigidene Asylum Seeker Project and the Red Cross.
The project has been in planning for over 12 months and opened its doors for the first time in August 2009. The services currently provided by the service include, the Br Noonan Asylum Seeker house of Welcome in Richmond, a financial support fund and a volunteer and employment service. ERASP is looking to further assist other service providers into the future and will be updating its website as other services become available.

"People just want and need to be acknowledged that they are alive, that they exist"
- Fr Bob MacGuire
The Edmund Rice Food Van is a program that engages the homeless community of St Kilda on Wednesday and Friday evenings. The Food Van provides an important service in addressing food insecurity as well as promoting social inclusion.
Volunteers meet at St Peter and Paul Church South Melbourne on the corner of Dorcas and Montague Streets between 5:30 and 6:00pm on a Wednesday and Friday.
The van is based at the Gatwick Private Hotel in St Kilda, which is where volunteers will engage with the community. Whilst providing a vital response to the issue of food insecurity in St Kilda, the Edmund Rice Food Van focuses on building a strong, dynamic and inclusive community. The homeless community is extremely marginalized from the rest of society. The Van aims to break down these barriers that exist between homeless communities and mainstream society through sharing a meal and a conversation.
If you can’t be involved directly by coming down to the van, we also
require warm clothes, food and other donations!
If you have any other questions or keen to get involved send an
email to: foodvan@amberley.org.au
