ABOUT CAMP
Homepage
For nearly a century, Winnebago has offered boys, ages 8-15, a safe, positive and creative environment where, in the spirit of fun, they develop both physically and socially through participation in a broad range of land & water sports, wilderness adventure, and individual activities. With over a 90% return rate, we know that our campers thrive. If camp were just about fun that would be easy. Rather, we have fun and challenge boys who value their achievements. The result? We help nurture confident young men who make positive differences in the world simply by who they are. Winnebago is not for the boy “who can” but for the boy “who will.” – Uncle Howie Lilienthal

Overview
Home > Overview
Winnebago walks a fine line between creating a competitive atmosphere and understanding that success lies in the effort a camper gives rather than the outcome. As society becomes more results focused, we continue to insist on the process. Yes, Winnebagans do achieve extremely high results. However, boys understand that being supportive of each other is what makes a lasting difference – a difference that helps foster leadership and builds emotional and physical self-confidence.
The Winnebago program affords campers an opportunity to gain skills (and confidence) in a broad range of activities; many of which they would not necessarily have access to at home. Campers enjoy athletic instruction and competition (amongst each other and other camps) in a variety of sports that include baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, street hockey and tennis. Campers swim twice daily, build skills in a number of other more individual activities such as archery, sailing, video, drama, photography and waterskiing, and explore the beauty of Maine on both day and overnight camping trips.
Our trip program is outstanding. Each age group embarks on two overnight camping trips each summer – usually one canoeing and one hiking. The trips are thoughtfully planned out to appropriately challenge boys in a safe yet meaningful way. Most campers return from their trips emboldened by their efforts and with a sense of accomplishment. Campers and alumni consistently remark that experiences on trips are some of their most profound memories.
Wherever Winnebagans go during the summer, people remark how nice, thoughtful, interested and interesting they are. This is a product both of who the campers are and of the culture we create at camp – a culture where boys understand that being nice and respectful to one another is important and easy.
Campers

Boys, ages 8-15, come from all over the world to be at Winnebago. Like you, the other campers are talented, fun and smart. Winnebago is a special place where you will have lots of fun, make great friends, and learn how to do many activities that you may never have tried before.
Camp is a safe and friendly place. No matter where you are from, once you get to camp, you are a Winnebagan and part of the Winnebago community. The counselors are at camp to help you be as great as you can be.
At camp, you have the chance to do many different activities. You will play lots of different sports, swim in a beautiful lake, do activities like shoot archery, water ski, make videos and investigate the natural world; both at camp and on day and overnight trips that you will take all over Maine.
At Winnebago, it does not matter how good you are at something, the important thing is how hard you try. We hope you like looking at all the pictures and look forward to seeing you at camp.

Swimming
Home > Campers > Swimming

Generally, campers swim every day. In the morning boys take part in small group instruction and work with the same instructor throughout the summer to improve all facets of swimming including strokes, starts and turns. In the afternoon, campers enjoy ‘free swim’ where fun and games are the rule. Boys improve their performance and conditioning, become more confident, and learn an activity they will enjoy for a lifetime. All swimming is done under the careful watch of trained lifeguards.
