Riding Program
The riding program is the core of the camp program at TVRC. It also offers wonderful opportunities for all campers to experience the true, western ranching experience! Whether you are brand new to western riding or an experienced horseman, campers will receive guidance and encouragement from our skillful barn staff. Each day a wide range of riding activities take place at the barn. As a camper, you will have the opportunity to choose your own adventure in the barn.
Barn activities include gymkhana, rodeos, horsemanship, half day trail rides, full day trail rides, and roping. Below you find descriptions of these activities.
If you like exploring the west on trail, then our trail rides are for you! Trail rides (both half and full day) allow campers to explore the wonders of Wyoming both on and off the ranch property. Some rides will have destinations like a beautiful waterfall, a historic cabin or an amazing fishing hole. While other rides will be early in the morning as you make your way to a very special breakfast made over an open fire.
If you enjoy learning the basics of riding a horse and exploring ways of becoming a better horseman or horsewoman, then our horsemanship program is for you! Our horsemanship program will start at the very beginning with every rider on foot. No matter what your ability, all will advance in this program that is meant to improve riders of all backgrounds.
If you enjoy rodeos, than TVRC is the place for you! Daily gymkhana (rodeo events) is offered and is a popular activity as there are several rodeos throughout the summer at the ranch. Gymkhana events include barrel racing, pole bending, musical mares, the slow race, and keyhole. All this is practice for our weekly Sunday rodeos. Campers participate in friendly competition and cheer on their friends at these special events. Complete with a water balloon toss and dance contest, rodeos are a highlight for campers each week. At the end of each season a Rodeo King and a Rodeo Queen are crowned for a job well done!
As you will see on our pack list, a lariat is an essential part of a camper’s time here at TVRC. Each camper will learn how to rope a jack and hone their skills as a roper. We also have team roping at every rodeo, and it is a great way for campers to show off their skills!
Pull on your boots... it’s time to get riding!

Hiking
Nestled in the high mountain plains of northwest Wyoming, Teton Valley Ranch Camp has access to some of the most beautiful and pristine places around. Usually, it takes some work to get to these incredible places, but the work is always worth the reward! Campers sign up daily for various hikes that are offered through our in-camp program to explore the wilderness that surrounds us. Leaving early in the morning and returning for dinner, campers get a chance to hike through Grand Teton National Park, Bridger-Teton National Forest, and Shoshone National Forest. Whether to a beautiful lake to catch a fish, or peaking a mountain to view the valley from above, day hikes are always a popular activity!
Campers usually sign-up for day hikes at least one day prior to the hike. With the help of their cabin counselor, they pack their day pack the night before, so they are ready for an early breakfast and to hit the trail in the morning. They will take rain gear, water bottles, a sack lunch, and, of course, a camera along with them to record all that they see. Just another great activity at TVRC!
Teton Valley Ranch Camp's firearms policy is to follow all state and Federal firearms laws and regulations. Our employees will not possess firearms while on duty within Grand Teton National Park.
Nature Discovery
Affectionately referred to as "Disco," our Nature Discovery program was started in order to maximize nature's classroom that encompasses the ranch. The purpose of the program was, and remains, to open up a child's sense of wonder to their natural surroundings.
With the abundance of technology that dominates our campers' lives, children are interacting less and less with the environment. Consequently, for today's child, TVRC's Discovery Program has never been more important. Daily activities with the Disco leader will range from exploratory hikes on ranch property and educational experiments, to field trips to museums and landmarks in the region. Campers will learn about local plants and wildlife, the importance of recycling and renewable energy, and how to act as an environmental steward.
Fly Fishing Program
There are few experiences comparable to catching a native trout on a hand-tied fly, in a place as beautiful as Wyoming.
From beginner to seasoned angler, all skill levels are welcome. Northwestern Wyoming is home to some of the top trout streams and lakes in the country, with pristine waters and an enticing variety of species; cutthroat, rainbow, brown and several hybrids. We take full advantage of that, and have several guides who are dedicated to fly fishing. We take a comprehensive approach in teaching campers the time honored sport of fly fishing. First, campers will learn the art of fly casting, practicing on the ranch’s Lake Lebato or Wright's Pond with coaching from our fishing instructors. Once the overhead cast has been practiced, it is time to work on the actual fly presentation. In our very own fly-tying shed, clad with trophy trout posters, fishing rods, and pictures of Wyoming’s prized fishing streams, campers are taught how to tie their own flies. Using specialized equipment, campers learn to create artificial flies to imitate native insects and fish using hooks, feathers, beads, string and other materials. With proper guidance, both dry and wet flies are tied and ready to be tested on the rippling streams surrounding TVRC.
Through a wide variety of trips (half-day, full day, overnight and multiple day backpacks or pack trips) campers are able to combine their fly-tying and casting abilities in the quest for trout. Our fishing guides and trip leaders help direct the campers to the best fishing locations depending on the time of year, weather conditions, and ease of access. Of course, there are a few tried and trusted “secret spots” where the fish are always biting.
Teton Valley Ranch Camp practices catch and release and believes in educating campers on the big picture of fish and wildlife habitat preservation. We strive to teach campers this comprehensive approach to allow for their fishing adventures to extend far beyond their time at Teton Valley Ranch Camp. Whether catching their first trout, or the fish of a lifetime, it is easy to become hooked on fishing after a summer at TVRC. “Fish On!”

Target Sports

The TVRC archery range allows archers a wonderful place to learn and practice. Following a mandatory safety session in the first few days of camp, children from every age group can participate in the archery program. Instructors match each camper with the appropriate size and strength bow and instruct on the safety procedures taken when at the range. Campers are coached on proper stance, drawing form, release and aiming techniques to advance their skills and qualifications in the archery program. At the end of the summer, the boys and girls receive patches and certificates indicating their progress over the course of the summer.
Trips Program

Each summer, every camper at Teton Valley Ranch Camp will have the opportunity to travel deep into the wilderness on both a backpacking trip and pack trip. A highlight of the summer, trips at TVRC are unforgettable! Teton Valley Ranch Camp is lucky enough to have permits throughout the valley in Grand Teton National Park, Targhee National Forest, Bridger-Teton National Forest, and Shoshone National Forest. These permits enable campers to explore some of the most stunning mountain ranges in the United States: the Teton Range, the Gros Ventre Range, the Absaroka Range, and the Wind River Range. Below you will see more details about backpacking trips and pack trips.
Backpacking
What better way to experience the grandeur of the great outdoors than to pack up a backpack and head out into the wilderness with your friends and role models? Imagine hiking through a pine forest with the sweet smell of balsam lingering the air. The clouds hang low in the morning and the crisp air covers your legs with goose bumps. The trail opens up to a meadow painted with purple lupine, yellow balsam-root, and fiery red Indian paintbrush. In front of you stand the Tetons, perhaps the most magnificent mountain range you will ever see. You look around at the friends in front and behind you and realize you will never forget this moment. It is etched forever in your memory.
While at Teton Valley Ranch Camp each camper will hit the trail and experience the wilderness on a backpacking trip. A hallmark of the TVRC experience, campers will tread along trails in Grand Teton National Park, the Wind River Mountain Range, or the Gros Ventre Mountains. They will trek through meadows filled with wildflowers, summit grand peaks, glissade down snow fields, traverse ridges, and cross flowing rivers all while learning backcountry skills, wilderness safety, personal responsibility, and leadership.
Packtrips
There are some areas of the Teton Wilderness that are only accessible by foot or horseback. At TVRC campers have the chance to explore these areas thanks to the help of three Wyoming outfitters who have worked with camp for decades. Campers ride on horseback over miles of forest and meadows, across rivers and along ridges, to the campsite where they will live under tarps for the next several days.
While at the pack trip campsite, days are filled with hikes and rides to explore the surrounding area. Years of tradition have led campers to pristine lakes and hidden waterfalls, amazing hikes and breathtaking vistas. After a long day, it’s back to the campsite for a game of kick the can or cards before dinner. Trail cooks prepare delicious meals over an open fire and the night ends with stories and s’mores around the campfire.
This unique experience is often a highlight for campers and will live strong in their memories for years to come. Falling asleep under a blanket of Wyoming stars, with only the faint sounds of hobbled horses to bid them goodnight, campers see a side of Wyoming few have a chance to experience. Each year, campers venture into the wilderness with the guidance of our trip leaders and outfitters to explore the west like never before.
