ABOUT CAMP

Birchwood Camp offers dynamic faith based camping programs for children, youth and adults focused on building community and faith formation.Birchwood provides camping opportunities for children entering first grade to recent high school grads, and we are expanding our opportunities to include adults and families. These camping programs are sponsored by the United Methodist Church and are open to all. The Camp is nestled quietly between the Chugach Mountains and the Cook Inlet about 30 minutes north of Anchorage, Alaska. Birchwood Camp has wonderful log cabins and is located on 160 acres of pristine Alaskan forest, including a 35 acre lake.

Birchwood Camp’s mission is to build community on common ground.

CAMP PROGRAMS

God Seekers Camp: June 1-3

For campers entering grades 1-4.

This is a great camp for younger elementary age children and first time campers. The three days are packed with fun games, music, worship experiences, large & small group activities, nature exploration and more. Children are given the opportunity to grow and thrive through these new experiences, all in a safe & fun environment. This camp is designed for young campers who may not be used to being away from home; by the last day campers are always asking to stay longer!

Youth Camp: June 8-12

For campers entering grades 7-12.

Teens from across Alaska will enjoy a week of fun, worship and community building with their peers! Campers experience exciting group building activities on our community challenge course, meaningful worship experiences, and learn about servant leadership through participating in projects around camp. We’re adding some special activities this year, such as a sweat at our traditional sweat lodge and outdoor education opportunities, as well as some other surprises. As always, campers can look forward to swimming, boating, campfires, crazy relay Olympics, great games, developing new and lasting friendships and much more. Campers spend the majority of their time in small groups and cabin groups with campers their age (middle school or high school) but share worship, meals and large group activities with the whole group.

Faith Adventure Camp: June 15-19

For campers entering grades 3-6.

Faith Adventure Camp is geared towards older elementary age kids who are ready to spend a whole week at camp. This adventurous week is spent making friends and learning about living in community. Faith Adventurers experience a lot of recreation activities: swimming, boating, crazy Olympics, as well as many other fun activities: crafts, service projects, skits, etc. Campers learn to work together in their small family groups and to develop a caring community with other kids. In all these adventures, campers are encouraged to explore their faith and to see God in the beautiful nature they experience.

Music and Drama Camp: June 22-28

For campers entering grades 5-10.

Music and Drama (MAD) Camp is our longest resident camp, lasting seven days. During their time at Birchwood, campers audition for, learn, practice and choreograph a prepared musical. Many campers return to this camp year after year because they get the feeling of working towards and accomplishing a shared goal. The campers put on two performances at the end of the week for family, friends and the community. In between rehearsals, MAD campers still find time for all the great camp activities such as worship, swimming, boating, crafts, games, team building, and time around the campfire.
