Help us raise $2.5 million to prepare camp for our next 60 years! As part of our 60th anniversary celebrations, Camp Olson unveiled the (3)60 Campaign, three projects to come full circle and replace and improve the hub of camp. We need the support of the ENTIRE camp community to make this happen. For more information, visit the (3)60 Campaign page.

ABOUT CAMP

Activities

Sailing

The Camp Olson Boathouse is one of our most popular program areas. There is a variety of boats including 15 larger sailboats from our 12 foot catamaran up to our 28 foot E-Scows. The Sunfish sailboats are perfect for learning and super fun for racing. After a quick lesson, you and a friend or two can sail away on your own! Sunfish races are generally held towards the end of the week, giving you time to practice.

Camp is a great place to learn to windsurf! Our helpful instructors will start you out on beginner boards Our trained boathouse staff is always available to instruct or simply be your skipper for a cruise around Little Boy Lake The week culminates in the Regatta, where Little Boy Lake is filled with the entire Camp Olson fleet all racing for the Camp Olson Cup Campers, with the help of our sailing instructors, can work to attain skill level awards that are awarded at the end of the week.

Archery

Archery is both fun and challenging. Our beautiful range is staffed by expert instructors who will teach you to shoot our re-curve and compound bows.  All campers visit the Archery Range at least once during morning cabin rotations.  The range is always open during afternoon free-time with a variety of events and contests.  Every Thursday the 3-D Archery shoot is open for the afternoon! Awards are given at the end of the week for the Bullseye club and for point-based awards including: Yeoman, Bowman, and Archer.

Waterfront

Cool off at our waterfront where you can swim under lifeguard supervision. The beach is always open and will have special games and contests during the afternoons, including beach volleyball tournaments, sand castle contests and the popular Big-Daddy of Splash. The beach is open every afternoon from 2-5:30pm and is a great place to cool off on those hot summer days. We’ll always have the sauna hot for those cooler mornings!

Horseback Riding

Our HSA certified corral staff will offer trail and ring rides throughout the week Camp Olson’s horse trails run for many miles throughout our scenic 1200+ acres The Corral staff is trained to accommodate riders of all ages and skill levels At the week’s end, the corral will be host to the Big O Rodeo, where riders can show off their skills and witness some truly spectacular displays of horsemanship Riding Campers can work to attain progressive awards year after year.

Crafts

Our Craft Shop is open morning and afternoons and offers campers the opportunity to create a wide range of unique projects including tie-dyes, candles, painting, sculpture, jewelry making and so much more. A different highlight activity is offered each afternoon, but you can always drop in during free-time to make a necklace, paint a picture, or follow your inspiration!

Fishing

Fishing at Camp Olson is second to none as we are situated on 5 lakes, three of which are entirely within Camp Olson’s 1200+ acres Our pristine and private Shurd lakes are unspoiled by motor or public use and are prime spots to fish for bass, northern pike, and crappies!. Cooper Lake is a great panfish and bass lake with a new kid-friendly pier and Little Boy offers a variety of fish for all anglers including walleye and the legendary muskellunge! Camp Olson provides rods, reels, and tackle for all who want to fish at camp. Our counselors are great teaching you how to bait, tie lures, and release your catch.

Sauna

The Linnes Sauna will be stoked and hot each evening for an after-campfire steam to be enjoyed as a cabin group. Little Boy Lake is a short jog from the sauna door for an refreshing post sauna dip! A trip to camp is not complete without a night in the sauna.

Nature Programs

Our resident naturalist can help introduce you to much of the diverse flora and fauna around camp. Nature hikes, stargazing, the Bog walk, and the Eco-Challenge are just a few highlights. Our Nature staff are here to help you explore and discover this rich landscape.  In addition, our nature program helps campers to learn about and tend our community garden, herb spiral, and compost pile.

Evening Programs

Each evening of Camp, we will have various activities for the whole camp These include campfires, Capture the Flag, Predator Prey, Counselor Hunt, Beach Skit, Carnival, Homestead Hoedown, and the ever-popular Big O Variety show.  Closing night campfire is every Friday night where campers receive recognition and awards for their accomplishments throughout the week. Campers also are afforded the opportunity to share what they like about their week at Camp Olson. Each night at Camp Olson ends with a campfire program put on by our staff with dancing, games, stories and songs to close our days.
