ABOUT CAMP
Cleveland Sight Center offers programs and services that are designed to enhance the independence, education, career and support opportunities for those with vision loss and their caregivers. Through these programs, CSC’s dedicated staff helps clients achieve ambitions, reach goals and thrive in the world today. These opportunities are available to those of all ages and are developed to fulfill the specific needs of each target audience.
INDEPENDENT-LIVING SERVICES
CSC provides services to assist those who are blind live independently. These services range from navigating around the home to cooking to laundry. In addition, services are available to enhance how partial or remaining vision can be used effectively with various low and high technology aids to improve self-sufficiency. CSC offers programs for those transitioning into adulthood and for adults and seniors experiencing vision loss.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
CSC delivers superior services for students in Northeast Ohio who are blind or have low vision. CSC offers school districts collegial assistance for teaching staff, parental support and other educational resources and assistance. CSC also provides specialized education to preschool children at Bright Futures Preschool, located at CSC’s headquarters.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The organization offers comprehensive employment services that prepare teens and adults to enter the workforce, work with sighted coworkers or return to a job after experiencing vision loss. The career preparation programs include employment training and on-the-job support.
SUPPORT PROGRAMS
CSC staff understands the hardship and fear associated with vision loss. CSC offers support programs to those experiencing vision loss and their families. During these sessions, clients and volunteers meet regularly to share experiences, insights and the special camaraderie of those who have lost vision.
SUMMER ACTIVITIES
CSC offers summer programs to children, teenagers and young adults to keep them busy, engaged and continued learning during the summer months.
Bright Futures Summer Day Camp (preschool ages): June 15 - July 16
ABCs Summer Day Camp (ages 5 - 8): July 20 - August 6
Summer Youth Career Exploration program (ages 14 - 16): July 20 - August 7
Summer Youth Work Experience program (ages 16 - 22): June 14 - July 17
SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN (3 - 20 YEARS OLD)
Cleveland Sight Center strives to support school districts in providing the best services to students and families to enhance their education, developmental growth and independence.

COLLABORATING WITH SCHOOLS
School districts are required to complete a Multi-Factored Evaluation for children who are blind or have low vision every 3 years. This evaluation establishes or re-establishes a child’s eligibility for a specialized education.
School teams including parents prepare an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) annually that specifies goals and services for each student. School districts may contract with CSC to provide Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and/or Orientation & Mobility services that address the Individualized Education Plan.
CASE MANAGEMENT
Each client is assigned a Case Manager who will provide information, resources and support to families as they navigate the school and medical environments. If requested, Case Managers can attend school meetings with the parents to support the needs of a child with a vision impairment and their teachers.
PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES
ARTS & CRAFTS
The Arts & Crafts program enables every camper to express themselves creatively through a variety of mediums. We utilize yarn, clay, paint, tie-dye, silkscreen, wood, leather, metal and more to introduce campers to different types of crafts! All campers are given the opportunity to take their camp masterpieces home as a memento of their time at Highbrook Lodge!

MUSIC & DRAMA
The Music & Drama program encompasses a wide variety of creative arts including instrumentals, vocal music, drama, theatrics, music history, dance and more. A favorite amongst adult campers is our choir, which practices daily at camp. All campers are encouraged to practice and participate in our end of the session Talent Show where we come together as a camp to share in everyone’s unique gifts and abilities!
NATURE & OUTDOOR LIVING
Our 63-acres truly allow us to provide quite the experience in our own natural environment. Ever wonder how to build a shelter, collect water in the wild, or make floatation devices out of your clothes? Our campers learn it all! The Outdoor Living program strives to teach campers about the skills it takes to survive in the wilderness. The Nature program is jam-packed with activities related to wildlife, conservation, gardening, and of course hiking! We combine both programs in our overnight campouts – available to all campers!
SPORTS & RECREATION
In the spirit of organized and friendly fun, Highbrook Lodge offers a sports and recreation experience for everyone. On any given day campers participate in group games or beeper baseball on Roberts’ Field or learn the basics of archery at our wooded range. Campers also get to experience basketball, field sports, tandem biking, shuffle board, corn hole, and more! A camper favorite is playing a game of bowling on our very own outdoor lane!
SWIMMING
Swimming in our heated pool is a favorite amongst campers! Our pool ranges from 3 to 5 feet deep and includes both stairs and a ramp entryway. During open pool activities, certified lifeguards staff the pool at all times and program staff members are always in the pool with campers. In addition, campers must pass a swim test to swim in the deep end.
EVENING PROGRAMS & CAMPFIRES
At Highbrook Lodge, we wrap up the day with an all-camp evening activity and campfire. Our staff creates engaging, innovative evening programs for all campers to enjoy. Summer favorites include an interactive game show night, a group raft building challenge (can it float your counselor across the pool?!), Greek Olympics, Counselor Hunt and Baseball Night. Following the Evening Program, all campers gather around our outdoor campfire to close the evening with songs, skits and fellowship. Campfire is a favorite amongst both campers and staff alike.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
In addition to the exciting programs listed above, we also have special events that may occur while attending Highbrook Lodge. Occasionally we take trips off-site to experience all the local area has to offer. Two favorite off-site activities are canoeing and fishing at local Geauga County Parks. From time to time we also bring special guests to camp to provide additional experiences for campers including horseback riding and Jungle Bob and his traveling animal show.
