ABOUT CAMP
host River Rediscovery Society (GRR) is a charitable organization founded in 1994. For the first three years of operation, we offered summer programming, relying primarily on the much-appreciated support of many volunteers who shared our vision. In 1997, Ghost River Rediscovery Society transitioned into a year-round operation. We recognized the vital need to provide ongoing year-round support and follow-up to complement the summer programming we already offered. Ghost River Rediscovery was the first Rediscovery program established within an urban centre and the first to operate all year long. Since inception, GRR has continued to evolve to meet the multifaceted needs of the communities we support, placing special focus on the needs and challenges faced by disadvantaged children and youth. The Youth Leadership Program was established in 1998 and was designed to help develop young leaders in the field of Cultural Outdoor Education. The Youth Leadership program offered a multitude of programming on a national and international scale, including youth exchanges, public engagement projects and paid international internships in countries around the world. Through the Youth Leadership Program, GRR has worked in Austria, Estonia, Finland, Poland, New Zealand, Guyana, Dominica, India, and Brazil.

Serving the urban Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community, GRR offers traditional and cultural-based indoor and outdoor leadership programming. By educating and engaging youth both on the land and in urban settings, GRR programs and services provide opportunities for youth to develop and learn new skills and offers guidance as they obtain a strong sense of self and connection to peers and cultural leaders.

Ghost River Rediscovery sees strength for the future in our ancient connection with the earth. Indigenous ways of knowing and being enrich our understanding of the world today, just as they have for thousands of years.

Our Youth Nights are free! Join us evenings October to June. Along with cultural activities, we enjoy great food, games and field trips – so join in and bring a friend!

(Re) Discover the natural world and the rhythm of the earth through cultural programs that reflect the First Nations experience of the seasons. The Summer season was important for hunting and gathering food, and our Summer Camps provide experiences to increase your understanding of this important link to the land.

ACTIVITIES
Our free Youth Nights complete the cycle through Autumn, Winter and Spring. Preparation for Winter, the time for storytelling, and making crafts are all explored in our Youth Night activities. As Spring returns, we celebrate this time of birth and renewal.

Join in our New Moon program and participate with other girls like you as you transition into womanhood. Traditional crafts, stories and songs, and connecting with Elders in an Aboriginal based cultural setting are all focused on assisting you on this important journey. Weekend winter camps provide new experiences with mother nature, developing wilderness skills and discovery of leadership abilities. As you learn about nature and Aboriginal cultural traditions, you will also learn about yourself and your unique place in the world.

As you learn about nature and Aboriginal cultural traditions, you will also learn about yourself and your unique place in the world.

Junior Urban Rediscovery – All youth ages 8-12 – Every Tuesday night 5:30-8pm

Join in our Junior Urban Rediscovery program and participate in exciting and engaging games and connect with old and new friends! Our Elders will share their wisdom through traditional crafts, stories and songs and you will connect with nature, other participants and yourself in an Aboriginal based cultural setting. Experience nature and culture in different ways through weekend activities.
