ABOUT CAMP
QCE is an accredited program with the Saskatchewan Camping Association.
Our trips are primarily designed for 2 different groups of youth. 1) Under-served youth, and 2) Emerging Leaders.
The youth who participate in QCE activities will not only learn valuable people skills (like teamwork, leadership, character building, and communication) but they will also learn practical outdoor skills that will empower them to pursue the outdoors later on in life.

Whether working with under-served youth, or emerging leaders, there are two basic principles that underpin the theory of ABL:
1: Challenge by Choice. No one should ever be forced to participate in something because this would likely do more damage than good. But with that said, the greatest opportunity for growth and learning lie in the balance between being comfortable, and being completely afraid. This means that in a supportive, encouraging, and loving environment, people will flourish as they chose to do things that they might not usually do.
2: Experiential Learning. It is ideal for learning that all experiences are followed with a time of reflection. An experience alone is not enough to invoke learning. Instead, with careful reflection and evaluating, participants can learn from their experiences and grow from them.

ACTIVITIES
Canoeing/Kayaking
Single day or multi-day paddling over water. Often involves camping in the back country, navigating moving water, fishing, and other fun bush-craft activities such as shelter building. We also offer Paddle Canada certification.
Hiking/Scrambling
Scrambling is ascending a non-technical mountain with the summit as the end goal. Scrambling can usually involve negotiating lower angle rock, traveling through talus and scree but does not involve traveling on extremely steep slopes or on glaciers.
Winter Travel
With the added element of cold weather and shorter days, winter travel and camping can be far more difficult than equivalent trips in the summer. But this makes for a rewarding experience. Winter travel includes snow-shoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, ice fishing, building quinzhee's, and other bushcraft type activities.
Climbing/Repelling
Climbing is a difficult skill to learn, but it is also highly addictive. We practice climbing indoors and outdoors and we always ensure that safety for our participants is number one priority.
Bushcraft
Bushcraft is about learning and practicing the skills and knowledge to survive in the outdoors. Examples include: fire building, navigation, shelter building, making bows and arrows, etc.
